The Intel Mobile Pentium III is the notebook-oriented version of the Pentium III introduced in 1999, based on the P6 microarchitecture and therefore retaining dynamic out-of-order execution, register renaming, speculative execution, and micro-op translation while adding SSE support and emphasizing lower power consumption for portable systems. Early versions were derived from the 0.25 µm Dixon core, which integrated 256 KiB of full-speed on-die L2 cache and was typically packaged in MMC-2 mobile modules, while later models moved to the 0.18 µm Coppermine core and then to the 0.13 µm Tualatin generation, using both mobile module formats and Micro-FCPGA packages depending on platform class. Compared with desktop Pentium III processors, the Mobile Pentium III added enhanced power-management features such as Intel SpeedStep in many variants, allowing dynamic switching between performance and low-power operating points. Technically, it is best understood as the mobile branch of the Pentium III family, combining the mature P6 design with packaging and power optimizations tailored for notebooks.
